General Weather Station Notes (You may also be
interested in the hardware/software development log).
- The Weather Station is on the left in the foreground of the
terrain as viewed from the PICPMB webcam. While it is mounted on a
pole at the required heigh, there are trees in the vicinity and
these will undoubtedly affect some readings, but not such that it
would detract from general use thereof.
- The Console is in the family study, which is upstairs with a
north west facing window. It is a cold room in the winter, as is
much of the house. This is typical of the poor insulation associated
with homes in South Africa. During the summer the room, because of
its position, can be very hot. All of this of course changes
radically if we use heating in the winter or the air conditioner
during the summer.
- The wind direction has defaulted to "blowing in", rather than
"blowing from", with the latter, as I understand it, being more
correct.
- The page only reports the current conditions and a record of
these values at specific intervals, over the past running
week.
- For a weather forecast for Pietermaritzburg, I usually refer to
the South
African Weather Service, or the Weather
Underground, or both.
- Including the smaller images from the PICPMB webcam for
yesterday, and today's conditions, was suggested by Gert. The
suggestion was readily agreed to, as I already use Weather
Underground's record of the noon images from the PICPMB webcam, to
compare Pietermaritzburg's weather with that other towns and cities
as reflected by their respective local webcams. See some comparisons
for yourself.
